Fall Happenings

National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15)

Our commemoration of this month has taken different forms over the years, but the intention is to provide an opportunity for students to feel seen and celebrated, and also to engage in meaningful discussions and discoveries about these cultures. In the past, students have learned how to process corn to make masa for delicious tortillas and tacos, engaged in interactive salsa dancing presentations, and listened to dramatic retellings of folktales from different cultures of Latin America. 

Fright Night

This annual tradition is hosted by Beechwood’s Parent Advisory group providing some safe and thrilling Halloween fun! Games, face painting, trunk-or-treat, a haunted house, hay rides, and delicious foods are some of the highlights of this event. It is always fun to see our community come together for an evening of fun fall activities. 

Thanksgiving Feast & Families

This is one of Beechwood’s oldest traditions. Students gather together into multi-age family groupings, assuming the roles of grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and kids to engage in conversation, games and other activities. Parents lovingly prepare and distribute turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pie and other Thanksgiving food favorites to each family group. Then, each family sets the table to enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving feast. Many alumni return to rejoin their “families” for this special event. 

Holiday Show

This special winter event spotlights our outstanding performing arts program. It is an opportunity for students to build confidence and celebrate the Arts. Students dress in festive attire and take to the stage for an evening of music, song and dance. Our Social Center is decked in lights and holiday cheer, and we welcome family and friends to enjoy the show.
